	Before the operation, the surgeon and the patient meet to examine the overall appearance of the face, the eyes, and the thickness of the eyelid skin. Then the surgeon and the patient together discuss to decide the optimal shape and height of the upper eyelid fold after looking at various shapes of folds created temporarily by the surgeon.
	In case of secondary operations, a thorough examination is required before the surgery. The patient is informed to the fullest degree of the possible level of improvement and of all unwanted possible outcomes.
	Operations are done under local anesthesia and if the patient requests, under sedation(MAC(Monitored anest hesia care)).
	Time required for an operation depends on the method of the surgery. Generally 30 minutes to an hour for doubl e eyelidplasty and upper blepharoplasty, and one to one and a half hour for blepharoptosis correction and low er blepharoplasty.
	One or two office visits are required for postoperative care. Stitches are usually taken out 3 days after the operation.
	Edema tends to increase for 2 or 3 days after the surgery. It usually takes an additional week for 70% to 80% of the edema to disappear. With the improvement of the edema, the unnatural pretarsal fullness decreases and the height also decreases. Time required for the edema to disappear depends on the method of the surgery, the operation time and differs considerably between individuals. Also, edema from secondary surgery usually lasts longer than that from the prior surgery. In case of double eyelidplasties, if the fold created is higher, it takes more time for the edema and the pretarsal fullness to subside.
	You may wash one day after the stitches are taken out. Because the stitches are taken out as early as possible in order to prevent and reduce scarring, the wound is not completely healed at the time of the stitch out, so vigorous scrubbing or massaging is prohibited and it is best to wash gently with soap bubbles.
	Avoid smoking and alcohol before and after the surgery. Vigorous exercise and sauna should be avoided for abo ut a month after the surgery.

Double eyelid surgery has been reported to be the most common aesthetic procedure in Asia. This procedure may seem simple, but it is actually one of the most complicated cosmetic surgeries. Several methods can be used to create double eyelids; including full-incision, partial incision, and non incisional methods. Each method has it’s advantages, but it does largely depend on the patient’s anatomy and aesthetic desires.
